LegenDerry Chairs is a project and accompanying exhibition collaborating 10 selected local creatives and Derry~ Londonderry businesses to create a distinctive set of bespoke furniture as a unique souvenir of the legendary year.Initiated and driven by ReFound and interdisciplinary arts projects, The CAAKE Project, the ‘Legenderry Chairs’ exhibition runs from 29th October – 2nd Nov 2013 in the Craft Village in Derry, showcasing the work of 10 designer-makers and their partnership with 10 local businesses.
For the project, some of the North West’s finest and up-and-coming artists will recreate and re-imagine reclaimed furniture with inspiration from their partner organisation to produce a legendary themed ‘work-of-furniture’ for the City of Culture. The project aimed at connecting local applied artists with local business in Derry~Londonderry during this eventful year and to continue the legacy beyond 2013.
Companies involved include Nuprint, Firstsource, Tommy Hilfiger, The Venue B&B, Inner City Trust, The Waterside Theatre, Playtrail Derry and AllPipe. Partnering with a selected artist/designer, they will receive their recreated, reclaimed and legendary-themed chair with their company and ethos in mind.
Selected local artists include Nuala Maguire, Michelle McCarroll, Bernie Murphy, Sinead Smyth, Maura McKee, Emmet Rock, Michelle Doherty, Mary Anthony Smyth, David O’Connor, Kaela Elliot and Hannah Magee.
